HKI provides expertise, training, and technical assistance to
establish nutrition and eye health programs in partnership
with host countries. Besides a summary of HKI’s

ILSI Human Nutrition Institute (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
The International Life Sciences Institute’s research
concentrates on micronutrient malnutrition, physiological
effects of carbohydrates and dietary pattern analysis. The
site contains research and policy information on these topics

with micro-nutrition and malnutrition.

This organization aims to improve the health and well being
of babies and young children, their mothers and their
families through the protection, promotion and support of

International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders (ICCIDD) (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
The ICCIDD is an international non-governmental organization
working for the sustainable elimination of iodine deficiency
and the promotion of optimal iodine nutrition worldwide. The
site contains information about iodine deficiencies and links
to downloadable PDF files of the Council’s newsletter.

International Zinc Nutrition Consultative Group (IZiNCG) (Focus on Low-Income Countries) (French, Portuguese, Spanish)
IZiNCG is an international group that promotes and assists
efforts to reduce global zinc deficiency. The site contains a
series of ‘technical briefs’ in multiple
languages and a bibliography on zinc and health.

Iron World (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
The site has extensive fulltext information and links to iron
deficiency, anaemia and micronutrient health issues
(assessment, intervention strategies, guidelines and
policies). The site is maintained by the Iron Deficiency
Project Advisory Service, based at Tufts University, U.S.

LINKAGES Project (Focus on Low-Income Countries) (French, Portugese, Spanish)
The LINKAGES project (1996-2006) was funded by USAID and
managed by the Academy for Educational Development. It
provided technical information, assistance, and training to
organizations with the aim of improving child survival,
growth, and development, and maternal reproductive health,
reducing mother-to-child HIV transmission and increasing
child spacing. The still-active website gives links to all
its publications (including, fact sheets, counselling cards,
training modules and technical reports).

Micronutrient Forum (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
The Micronutrient Forum is a new organization that replaces
the International Vitamin A Consultative Group (IVACG) and
the International Nutritional Anemia Consultative Group
(INACG). It focuses on the micronutrient deficiencies of
public health significance, particularly vitamin A, iron,
folate, iodine, and zinc. The site provides access to IVACG
and INACG and other related publications, and to the
proceedings of international micronutrient meetings.

Micronutrient Initiative (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
The Micronutrient Initiative is a Canada-based international
non-governmental organization dedicated to eliminating
micronutrient malnutrition worldwide. The site contains links
to other organizations dealing with micronutrient
malnutrition. .The Micronutrient Initiative currently has
projects in 75 countries.

Mother and Child Nutrition (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
This site gives practical and easy-to-understand information
on community nutrition and lists essential health actions for
mothers and children at critical stages of their life cycles.
Although the site is particularly for India, most of the
resources are relevant to resource-poor countries. It
is part of the
Health Education for
Villages (HETV) which gives access to many other
resources including simple educational aids, the
Rehydration Project with full
text information on diarrhoea and rehydration and a video
clip of the
initiation of
breastfeeding by the baby crawling to the breast.

MUAC Community Website
This is a site for the dissemination and discussion of issues
related to the use of mid-upper-arm circumference (MUAC) as a
tool for the assessment of nutritional status. It includes
case-definitions, surveys, and patient monitoring and other
material. The site is 'open' for discussion from all
participants although a 'free' registration is required.

SIGHT AND LIFE (Focus on Low-Income Countries) (French, Portuguese, Spanish)
SIGHT AND LIFE exchanges information that helps to fight
micronutrient malnutrition and the ‘double
burden’ of malnutrition (i.e. under and over
nutrition). The site is a humanitarian initiative of DSM, a
company that produces vitamin A capsules and other products,
but the content is generally regarded as reliable by the
nutrition community.

This site contains an overview of nutritional issues,
particularly those related to children and adolescents in
low-income countries (e.g. nutrition security,
micronutrients, breastfeeding, emergency care). It includes
