AED Center for Nutrition (Focus on Low-Income Countries) (French, Portuguese, Spanish)
This site is the gateway to information, tools and
publications of the following nutrition-related projects and
programs: A2Z, BASICS, FANTA, LINKAGES, MOST, Profiles and
SARA. Topics covered include adolescent and women’s
nutrition, infant and young child feeding and HIV,
micronutrients and fortification, food security, nutrition
and HIV, nutrition in emergencies and nutrition-related
chronic diseases.

British Association for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (BAPEN)
Although BAPEN is UK orientated, the site gives access to
several resources which could be useful in low-income
countries. These include a malnutrition screening tool
(MUST), and links to similar associations in other countries
(including South Africa and India) and to online journals.

e-Library of Evidence for Nutrition Actions (eLENA) (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
e-LENA brings together the latest evidence-informed WHO guidelines, commentaries and evidence resources on the broad topic of nutrition. The site covers micronutrients (including updated vitamin A supplementation guidelines), other nutrients, child feeding including feeding children with HIV. The aim of this new e-library is to stimulate effective nutrition actions and guide programme and policy design.

Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO): Nutrition and Consumer Protection (Focus on Low-Income Countries) (French, Spanish)
This site gives links to FAO’s many materials and
websites on food composition, nutrient requirements,
household food security, nutritional assessment, national
policies and strategies, and nutritional information,
communication and education for communities (rural and urban)
and schools. It includes links to the organization’s
documents on food safety and quality, and to nutrition
profiles for selected low-income countries.

Food and Nutrition Technical Assistance Project (FANTA) (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
This site contains numerous PDF files about nutrition-related
topics for low income countries, particularly those related
to nutrition and HIV. The subjects include Assessment and
Monitoring, Emergency Nutrition, Food Aid, Food Security,
Household Food Consumption, Infant and Child Nutrition, and
Women’s and Adolescents’ Nutrition. The project
is managed by the
Academy for
Educational Development and funded by ID.

International Union of Nutritional Sciences (IUNS) (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
IUNS aims to promote advancement in nutrition science, research and development at the global level; to encourage collaboration among nutrition scientists and to disseminate information. The site gives access to the reports of its various symposia and taskforces, and to articles from several nutrition journals, and links to a few other nutrition organisations.

MUAC Community Website
This is a site for the dissemination and discussion of issues
related to the use of mid-upper-arm circumference (MUAC) as a
tool for the assessment of nutritional status. It includes
case-definitions, surveys, and patient monitoring and other
material. The site is 'open' for discussion from all
participants although a 'free' registration is required.

Nutrition Information Centre, University of Stellenbosch and Tygerberg Academic Hospital (NICUS) (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
The goal of NICUS is to act as a reliable and independent
source of nutrition information in South Africa. The site
contains links to fulltext PDF documents on Nutrition and
AIDS, Dietary Intakes, Micronutrients, Food Fortification,
and Basic Fact Sheets plus links to other Internet resources.
Much of the material is relevant to other countries in
sub-Saharan Africa.

This site describes the aims, work and publications of the
Nutrition Society - the largest learned society for nutrition
in Europe. The organization gives guidance on professional
development and nutrition training. The site includes Information Sheets
on print, CD-ROM and electronic
resources for ‘low-income countries’ and also has
links to many useful international organizations and
institutions.

The site contains information on nutrition and HIV, Nutrition
for Mothers and Children, Food Security, Malnutrition,

sponsored by AED/SatelLife. Interested users can subscribe to

search results, there are links to the fulltext material.

The SCN promotes cooperation among UN agencies and partner
organizations in support of community, national, regional,
and international efforts. The site contains information
about the Committee and its programs plus links to numerous

reports, press releases and the bi-annual
SCN
News, a periodic review of developments in international
nutrition.

USAID: Nutrition (Focus on Low-Income Countries)
This site describes and gives links, to USAID’s
evidence-based nutrition programs that aim to improve the
nutritional status of people in developing countries through
a concentration in six areas. These are micronutrient
supplementation and fortification, improved infant and young
child feeding (IYCF), measures to improve household food
security and Title II food aid. Under
Nutrition Resources, the site links to all USAID’s
nutrition projects and to its partners.
